LIV Golf is a global sports league featuring individual and team competition, a 14-tournament schedule, and many of the world’s best golfers. Founded in 2021, LIV Golf League aims to modernize and expand the game on an international level, unlocking the sport’s true potential.

To achieve its mission, LIV Golf must create, manage, and distribute tens of thousands of digital assets around the clock to satisfy the content-hungry needs of modern sports marketing. Bynder’s AI-powered digital asset management (DAM) platform serves as the foundation of its content operations, fulfilling 100% of image, logo, and brand design/guideline requests. This allows LIV Golf to quickly deliver targeted, on-brand content experiences to the market, bringing fans worldwide closer to the action.

Why Bynder?

Bynder worked with FIFA and that gave us a lot of confidence.
Montana Pritchard
Director of Photography at LIV Golf

Beginning the search for a DAM platform in November 2022, LIV Golf needed a configurable solution that prioritized ease of use, a self-service ‘do more with less’ approach for scaling operations, and automation capabilities to bring content to market as fast as possible.

Bynder’s proven track record with major sports brands like FIFA, Formula 1 team Sauber, and fellow golf brand Golfbreaks sealed the deal for LIV Golf, kickstarting its DAM journey in January 2023.

In our meetings, Bynder actually listened to what we needed instead of saying this is what we have. They checked all our boxes, including things that I didn't even know we needed.

Promoting game-day content experiences as it happens

LIV Golf’s six photographers can produce between 20,000-30,000 images during tournament days. Players, press, internal teams, and sponsors all need these assets in real-time to fuel omnichannel content experiences across fan touchpoints.

Self-service and automating workflows across the content lifecycle with Bynder are crucial in getting content to market as fast as possible. Photographers can bulk-upload assets to Bynder and a Drawbridge API integration automatically distributes select assets to media outlets like Associated Press Worldwide.

Everybody that has access to Bynder has images within an hour of when they're shot — they've been selected, captioned, uploaded.

By organizing assets into shareable collections grouped by theme, format, or event, stakeholders can also self-serve in Bynder to quickly find and use the latest and greatest assets—or brand guidelines—without having to manually request them from LIV Golf’s design teams.

We're not using the DAM to have fancy folders of photographs. We're using the DAM to promote imagery and save time. If we're saving 10 designers 10 minutes every time they receive a photo request, we've now just provided the company with 10-15 full-time employees.

Reducing distribution deadlines from 24 to 2 hours for sponsors Maserati

Sponsorships with high-profile brands like luxury car manufacturer Maserati provide vital revenue streams for LIV Golf. In the original sponsorship agreement with Maserati, it was stated that LIV Golf would provide game-day sponsorship materials within 24 hours. But as the sponsor needed content live during tournaments to engage with fans, a 24-hour deadline was far from ideal.

Through Bynder’s powerful integrations and self-serving capabilities, LIV Golf is able to automate processes and significantly shorten time to market to keep Maserati satisfied.

They panicked and wanted assets faster, so we changed the deadline to within 2 hours because of Bynder. And we beat that deadline every single time. They’re super happy with that.

Golf Digest is also a frequent requestor for LIV Golf’s digital assets, particularly player-approved images. With Bynder there are no more manual back-and-forth requests for individual assets or approval bottlenecks, as explained by Montana:

They don't even have to ask us for images. They go directly in Bynder, they can download what they need, and then they can produce their next [magazine] cover.

Fueling real-time retail experiences—from ticketing to t-shirts

LIV Golf’s design teams are using Bynder’s agile content creation capabilities to translate game-day action into merchandising within hours, tapping into fan excitement while it’s at its peak.

When LIV Golf player Bryson DeChambeau shot a record-breaking 58 at Greenbrier, designers, photographers, and merchandisers quickly got to work in Bynder to produce t-shirts commemorating the occasion. Digital prints were generated using Bynder’s brand templating tools and a unique product SKU was tagged onto the relevant imagery, which retailers could then search by to instantly find the image they needed to create merchandise.

The merch team and designers generated the digital prints in Bynder around 45 minutes after play, produced the t-shirts, and they sold out. It was all done before Bryson even got on his flight home.

For tournament tickets, Bynder’s CX Omnichannel makes it effortless for LIV Golf’s designers to automatically generate digital tickets in different formats and sizes from one single source of truth in the DAM, enabling production at scale while ensuring brand compliance.

Our design team never has to download an image, save it to a certain size, and then email it. The ticketing team can now go to Bynder, pick what they want, and transform it into the correct format. They never even have to make the photo request.
